Giant Panda Conservation in China
The Giant Panda is one of the most endangered animals in the world with a current estimate of only 1600 alive today. Pandas are one of the most magnificent, adorable animals on earth giving joy to adults and children alike. Their survival is paramount. The China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) was established by the Chinese government together with WWF in 1980, volunteers are needed to help continue the good work.
Volunteer RoleYou will be working according to a daily schedule which will vary depending on the duties and number of volunteers sharing the work. Volunteers will be able to:
- Prepare food for the pandas such as apples, panda bread, carrots, carry lots of bamboo,
- Serve them food,
- Clean the Panda’s enclosures,
- Observe and do research on the pandas, and help in providing medical care for them. You will also have time to watch and photograph the pandas.
Location
This programme is based in Bifengxia, which is 16km from Ya’an and 150km from Chengdu all of which are part of the Sichuan province.
Accommodation and Meals
Your home while on the programme will be the hotel in Xiaoxitian, which is located in the Panda Base surrounded by forests and mountains. Rooms are shared between 2-3 volunteers. 3 meals a day are included and are provided in the nearby restaurant.
