China
China is currently experiencing a massive economic boom. This means that now is the best time to visit, before this amazing country loses some of its unique heritage. The Chinese culture has some astonishing contrasts, with some of the population living in modern buildings and working in skyscrapers, while others live nearby in more humble surroundings. While there, make sure that you try a traditional Chinese massage as well as sampling the unique Chinese food.

Weather
The weather in Ya'an has an average temperature of 14.1°C -17.9°C and has a lot of rainfall, it is referred to by some as the "Rain city". In the summer the area is quite hot while in the winter it is fairly cool but doesn’t get much snow. The Panda Base is located in the forest, so the temperature is fairly moderate while in December and January it might be a little bit colder.

Getting There
You should arrange your flights into Chengdu airport where you will be met by a representative and transferred to the project. This programme is based in Bifengxia, which is 16km from Ya’an and 150km from Chengdu all of which are part of the Sichuan province.

Free Time
The weekends will give you a great opportunity to explore the local area. There are a few shops and bars within 5 minutes walk of the Panda Base, and a town that takes about 10 minutes by car to get to. Alternatively you can simply relax at the Panda Base with some of your fellow volunteers. There is also a nature reserve and zoo next door for you to explore.
