Name: Gina Kakouri
Programme: Sri Lanka Teaching Children English
Dates: August 07
What was your motivation to take a gap break? I've always wanted to do voluntary work, and Sri Lanka is a beautiful country surrounded by natural resources, very harmless and exciting at the same time.
How did you feel before you joined the programme? I was very nervous, I had no idea what to expect, although I was extremely excited to discover Sri Lanka and its people.
How did Real Gap assist you? Real Gap were very friendly and helpful, I felt safe once I was there in the care of the family Real Gap had organised for me, they were just as I'd expected. |
 |
What was the accommodation like? The family home was very comfortable, and western in a lot of aspects, it was a very enjoyable stay.
 |
What did you think of the programme? This programme was very fulfilling and exciting, I was always entertained and achieved a lot more than I had thought possible.
What was the most memorable moment of your trip? Probably riding the Elephant through water on a day trip, and playing with the children at the orphanage and schools, they were so humble. |
Did your programme and destination meet your expectations? It was more than I had ever expected, the country was so beautiful, and the people were the friendliest I have ever met, I would definitely return some time in the future.
What do you feel you accomplished?
I accomplished what I set out to do, making a difference to some children's lives; I hope to have left them memories and skills that they will never forget.
How have you benefited from your experience? I have become a lot more open to new experiences, this trip changed my outlook on life, I am a lot more humble and appreciative of my material possesions, and I will continue to work like this every year.
