Volunteering here gives you the opportunity to help conserve this beautiful location whilst enjoying this nature lovers’ island. In exchange for your work, you will get an education about Hawaii’s unique ecology and a chance to experience rare native plant communities.

This is the perfect programme for someone with a keen interest in botany or ecology, and for someone who enjoys a challenge and wants to contribute to a valuable team effort.

Volunteer Role

This project is run by a conservation group on Kauai that addresses the crucial needs of the islands’ state parks, and which primarily organises alien species control work in the forests throughout the parks. The programme provides a framework for volunteers to be involved in preserving the spectacular natural resources of the area, and is supported by funding from a variety of different nature organisations.

The work you will be doing here is of vital importance for the delicate environment of this island, and you can be sure that your help is worthwhile and greatly appreciated.

The programme allows you to penetrate the vast areas of park forest and involves some significant hiking. Guided by experienced Park staff, you will be active in the weed removal programme and will also have the chance to do some trail clearing, fencing of rare plants and planting of native species, as well as plant care.
