Name: Helen Pearce
Programme: Orphanage in Ukraine
Dates: June 07
 |
How did you feel before you joined the programme? I was excited to be doing something different and going somewhere that not many people go to.
How did Real Gap assist you?
They were there to answer any questions I had however small.
What was the accommodation like?
My host family were great and really treated me like a member of their family. I was lucky enough to have my own room (although there were always people walking through it to get washing off the balcony). The apartment had hot water, shower, washing machine etc. |
What did you think of the programme?
We were only allowed to go to the orphanage between 11.00-13.00 and 17.00-19.00, which was a shame, but this allowed us to experience more of the way of life as well as helping at the orphanage.
What was the most memorable moment of your trip?
So many to mention (unfortunately including being ill for 5 days)
Did your project and destination meet your expectations?
The town I stayed in was not how I expected - it was much more westernised but lovely and soon felt like home.
How have you benefited from your experience?
I'd love to do more travelling now and I definitely want to pursue a career working with children.
What advice could you offer to someone considering this project?
Take on all opportunities given to you while you are out there. Experience the way of life as well as having a great time with the kids.
