Help the children of Dominican Republic
This programme is an excellent opportunity to work with children in Latin America. The recent financial problems in the Dominican Republic has left many families impoverished, with the more vulnerable people such as children and orphans in greater need of volunteer assistance.
You should consider this volunteer placement if you are interested helping children in the Dominican Republic through care, education and social development. The Dominican Republic has much to offer in terms of work and travel, making it an excellent place to go to during a mini gap year out or single voluntary work experience.
The Volunteer Projects
Our Dominican Republic volunteer projects with Villa Bendicion and Casa de la Tia Tatiana orphanages and the “Children of Don Bosco” serve to support street children and orphans in the Dominican Republic. These agencies provide schooling, vocational training and emotional and social support to orphans and street children.
Volunteers are greatly needed to work with the children, spending time accompanying them in their classrooms and after school activities, including homework help, teaching English as well as sports. The children continually ask for past volunteers by name and treasure the 1:1 attention and love that gap year students and other volunteers provide.
Accommodation and Meals
Homestay experiences allow you to live and experience Dominican culture and be completely immersed in Spanish language practice. Families are carefully selected and besides serving as a source of support and language practice, families provide students with breakfast and dinner as well as access to washing machines for laundry.
