You will be based in Hwange National Park, located near the rural village of Dete; just two hours drive from the magnificent Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is nestled between Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa and is home to the almighty Victoria Falls. Zimbabwe is a diverse and exciting destination, with an abundance of African Wildlife and home to some of the most warm and welcoming African communities. Where else in the world can you walk with lions, visit pristine wildlife reserves home to hundreds of species of wildlife, work alongside African communities and enjoy the thrill of white water rafting and other adrenaline sports?

Free Time
You will work 6 days a week with Sunday being more of a rest period, unless an emergency call-out occurs. During your stay at the Hwange programme you will also have the opportunity to enjoy an excursion to some of the spectacular spots that Zimbabwe has to offer. These trips are a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to interact and get to know each other better. Our project managers will gladly put together an excursion for you once you have arrived at the project. For example, you could leave Hwange after breakfast for Victoria Falls, ‘the Adrenalin capital of Africa’ where you will have the chance to take on the world’s premier white water rafting, bungee jump off the bridge to the Falls below or enjoy sunset cruises on the Zambezi River.

Please note: that these activities are at your own cost. Your project coordinators in Africa can arrange this for you, though the trip will depend upon availability, participant numbers and departure dates and thus cannot be guaranteed. You may need to allow additional time for the trip if you are volunteering for a short period.

Getting There
You will need to fly into Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe, via Johannesburg. Upon arrival, you will be met by our project coordinators and transferred to Hwange National Park, which is an approximate 2-3 hour transfer by road.

Tours After Your Project
Being so close to the Victoria Falls means that you are at a major starting point for tours through Africa. Why not join an overland tour after your volunteer project and further explore the amazing sights that Africa has to offer you. From 3-day mini trips to a mammoth 56-day epic, we have the perfect tour to suit your needs and leave you with unforgettable memories of Africa. Please ask the Africa team for further details.
