Hwange National Park Conservation
|
Typical Daily Itinerary Please note: that your itineraries may differ from this, depending on your own experience and the number of other volunteers on the placement at the same time. Please use this itinerary as an example only. At any given time during the day there is a possibility of receiving a call to assist a snared animal, in which case everything is dropped and the snared animal becomes the priority of the day.
Here is how a typical day in the life of a Hwange Conservation Volunteer might take shape:
- 06:00am: Head out for an early morning drive and conduct road strip counts, spoor transects and note down locations and GPS information on animals sightings
- 08:30am: Breakfast
- 09:30: Leave camp with your volunteer co-ordinators for a walk in the Dete Annexe to conduct snare sweeps and take down information on species sighted, including any small carnivores
- 13:00pm: Lunch and siesta until about 14.30
- 14:30 – 17:30pm: We’ll take you to Dete village where you are able to participate in the local Red Cross feeding programme and then be involved in the Elephant Pepper programme, discussing new methods and areas for the distribution of chilli pastes with local villagers.
- 19:00pm: Dinner
