The project is based in Jaipur City, which is the capital of Rajasthan, the largest state of India.
India India is wonderfully rich in culture. Its scenery is varied and exciting, with a colourful, vibrant culture, influenced by traditional Hindu religion, mixed with aromatic spices of the east, Yoga, Meditation, music and its many festivals. It’s astonishing to think that the fast paced city of Delhi is part of the same country as the peaceful mountain villages in the Himalaya Range. India really is a country that you need to experience first-hand – hearing or reading about it is not enough!
Jaipur The capital of India’s largest state, Rajasthan and nicknamed the “Pink City” after the facades of the old walled city in the northeastern quarter of an expanding and increasingly modern city. There are plenty of old palaces scattered liberally throughout the city, which can be easily come across when strolling leisurely along the wide boulevards as well as colourful and noisy bazaars selling many tempting trinkets. The city was founded in 1727 and today has a population of 2.3 million people – that is a pretty fast expansion!
Climate India experiences a number of local climates, microclimates and major climate subtypes across its vast area, each one varying due to factors such as topography, altitude and so on. So a general climate for India is practically impossible, although there are the four distinct seasons:
- Winter from January to February
- Summer from March to May
- The Monsoon season from June to September
- And the Post-Monsoon season from October to December
Conditions of each of these seasons varies depending on whereabouts you are in the country but in very general terms the south of the country will be quite a lot warmer than the north – it’s the difference between beaches and glaciers!
Free Time Being located in Jaipur, you will have access to a multitude of experiences in a safe and relatively slow-paced city. Cultural visits, shopping and travelling to interesting locations nearby are amongst the many things that you can do while in Jaipur.
While you are not taking part in volunteer activities you will have free time to experience many cultural events such as dance performances, art shows and festivals. Yoga sessions will be available to you every morning at the camp in Jaipur (excluding weekends). During week two you will have the chance to take part in Indian cooking lessons.
Your project coordinator and team will also be able to provide you with detailed information and assistance for ideas about independent weekend excursions.
Getting There You will need to arrange your travel to arrive into Delhi Airport for the start date of your programme, where you will be met and receive a transfer to Agra.
