Programme Details
Many children in the slum area of Bangalore spend their days out on the streets or being sent out to work by their parents at a very early age. This can often lead to a life of crime and drugs for those who have no other choice. The Day Care Centre and Primary School were set up 40 years ago to encourage and motivate children to go to school and learn.
Day Care Centre
The Day Care Centre has around 20 children between the ages of 2 and 5. It's aim is to prepare the children for School and provide a safe environment for them to stay whilst their parents are working. Children are given clothes (when necessary) and a nutritious breakfast.
Primary School
The Primary School takes up to 70 children and provides them with books, uniforms and lunch. They are taught English as well as other extra curricular activities. Five classes are taken in two rooms as well as medical check-ups. Families of the children can also be lectured on health, hygiene, HIV awareness and family planning.
Project
Nirikshea means 'hope' in Sanskrit and is a school set up to help reach out to children and make education available to children in poverty and from illiterate backgrounds. The school has 4 classrooms with 40 children but is constantly growing. The aim is to start more pre schools across the city for needy communities and create awareness of the importance of education. It also conducts community development programmes and bring health awareness to the people.
