Why volunteer on the Goa project in India? India is an excellent place to work and travel. It offers so much to backpackers and volunteers alike that any trip to India is a rewarding experience.
Where do volunteers stay? On arrival you will be staying in hotel accommodation for your first night. After breakfast the next morning you will depart for a small town near Mumbai called Lonavla where you will again stay in hotel accommodation.
During your adventure trek you will spend 1 night in a tribal village.
During your Ashram Experience you will live at a hotel just outside the Ashram.
In Goa, the accommodation is based 2km from the most spectacular of south Goa beaches. It consists of about 25kms of the finest powder white sand and is lined along its shore by coconut palms so you will be able to easily walk there for a bit of relaxation in paradise.
When can I volunteer? The project takes volunteers all year round but remember to talk to us about school holidays in India as volunteer work is limited to term time.
Do I need a visa? You must get a visa before arriving in India. It is valid from the date of issue, lasts for 6 months and will cost British citizens £30. We can help you organise this.
How much money should I take? We would recommend that you budget between £30-£40 per week.
What is the food like? Rice is eaten with dhal (lentils), sabzi (vegetables) and chatni (chutney).
What are the bathrooms/toilets like? You will experience a number of different shower and toilet facilities. There are western toilets which don’t have a flush - you simply fill a bowl with water and pour down the toilet.
You will also experience Asian toilets which require placing your feet either side of the basin in the ground and squatting.
What vaccinations do I need? You must see your GP before travelling.
We would recommend considering; Hepatitus A & B, Typhoid, Polio and Tetanus and Malaria tablets.
