This volunteer programme offers you a combination of experiences and the chance to sample the essence of India all in one go. It includes sightseeing excursions, a spiritual Ashram experience, trekking and volunteer work close to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Goa needs the assistance of volunteers, as a lot of the region remains extremely poor and untouched by international money, despite its' prominent tourist industry. By taking part in volunteer work in India, you will give invaluable help to children and adults in deprived communities.
The Goa Volunteer Experience has the following structure
- You will be met at Mumbai Airport (formally Bombay) and will spend a night in a hotel to relax after your flight.
- Spend your second night in Lonavla, a small town near Mumbai where you will visit a local market before starting your adventure trek.
- On your trek you will experience traditional settlements and see some wildlife. You also stay in a tribal village – a real experience!
- After your physical trek it’s off to live close to an Ashram – a temple like place where spiritual leaders live – for a course on yoga, meditation and gaining wisdom from ancient Indian customs.
- After this you arrive in Goa itself where there are beautiful beaches and a distinctive local culture. You will stay here for your volunteer work. Your orientation will teach you about culture, history, social issues and your volunteer work. Volunteer work varies, you could teach at a local school, care for young children at a day care centre or help with computer education depending on your preference and the needs of the local people.
What’s Included in the Programme:
- Transfer from Mumbai airport
- One nights accommodation in Mumbai hotel
- All transport between projects, excursions and airport transfers
- All meals and accommodation (Mumbai- Just breakfast)
- Two-day adventure activity including trekking through an unexplored region, climbing
hills and rocks. This will include a one-night stay and visit to an Indian village to
explore the different way of life in rural India
- Two-day “Ashram Experience” for learning yoga and meditation.
- Detailed orientation in Goa including a talk on Indian society and culture.
- A selection of volunteer projects
- Dedicated on-site assistance from English speaking guides
- All material required for various activities during the volunteer work like colour pens,
paper, sports equipment etc
- Free time to explore local area
What’s Not Included in the Programme:
- Tourist Visa
- All items of a personal nature such as gifts, clothes etc
- Flights
- E-mail and telephone calls made
- Personal insurance cover for the duration of your placement
- Ashram (any treatments)
