India Volunteer Himachal Pradesh
|
Where do volunteers stay? The accommodation in Palampur is set in stunning snow-capped mountains. You will stay in a large stone house and enjoy the new experience of Indian showers. You will share a dining area with others volunteers where you eat food prepared by staff (which is absolutely delicious!). There is plenty of space to kickback and relax.
When can I volunteer? The Himachal Pradesh project in India takes volunteers all year-round except January and February. Beware of school holidays where you will not be able to volunteer. Contact us for school holiday dates so that you can be sure to do as much volunteer work in India as you want to.
Do I need a visa? You must get a visa before arriving in India. It is valid from the date of issue, lasts for 6 months and will cost British citizens £30. We can help you organise this.
How much money should I take? We would recommend that you budget between £30-£40 per week.
What is the currency? The currency of India is the Rupee. At time of writing the exchange rate is £1 to 90INR
What is the food like? The basis of an Indian dish is rice and or wheat that are generally eaten with dhal (lentils), sabzi (vegetables) and chatni (chutney). Fish and meat may also be added.
What is the climate? Himachal Pradesh is the land of eternal snow peaks. Temperatures are lovely during the day (good for sun bathing) but very cold at night – take those socks for bedtime!
What vaccinations/Malaria tablets do I need? We are not medical experts so can not offer medical advice – you must go and se your GP.
What is the time difference? India is 5½ hours ahead of the UK.
