Israel Archaeology Experience
Since prehistoric periods, the land of Israel has been a focal point for historic events that have influenced all of mankind. The three monotheistic religions were born and developed in ‘The Holy Land’ and many other nations have risen and fallen there over the course of history.
These civilisations have left behind numerous antiquities sites that hold many undiscovered secrets of the past. Israel is one of the most densely crowded regions in the world for antiquities and new sites of historic importance are being discovered all the time, often by accident such as the discovery of the 2,000 year old ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’.
Volunteer RoleAs a volunteer you will spend your days participating in archaeological digs as a member of an official archaeology team. The excavation sites change regularly depending on the most interesting sites at the time.
Your responsibilities would include digging, sifting through the earth and recording and documenting the finds.
There are professors on hand at all times to offer expert insights into the finds, and they are also able to offer advanced tuition and training to those with particular special interests.
Location
The project is located in the Mount Scopus area of Jerusalem.
Accommodation & Meals
Volunteers will each have their own bedroom in a 5-bedroom apartment within the campus of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. This is a great opportunity to meet volunteers from all over the world.
Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and participants need to cook their own food. You will be given a food allowance to cover the cost of the food for the duration of the programme.
