Volunteer Name: Jane
Programme: Ecuador Street Children Care and Education
I have found working with the children very rewarding, but would have liked to have been able to speak a bit more Spanish than I have been able to. I think if I was to change anything, it would be to do 4 weeks language or have had some language lessons in England first.
I have enjoyed working with everyone at the project and working with the children at the two markets is great fun. The children in Santa Isabel are lovely too, and always welcome us with hugs and smiles. All of the people are very friendly and welcoming, and have always tried to understand my ´Spanglish´.
As this was my first trip to anywhere on my own, I have found out a lot about myself and learnt a lot, especially from the children and other volunteers. My host family has been great and I have been welcomed as part of the family. Isabel, Roberto, Danni and of course Wilmer. I have had some really wonderful social times with them at ´the Bungalow´, Hotel Quito and other places.
It would also have been good for me to have had extra time to explored Equador more and so I would have also booked maybe 2 more weeks of ´free time´. I really wanted to get to the Galapagos but this will have to wait for another trip.
All in all, I have had a really good time.
