Jennifer Wallbridge
Namibian Wildlife Sanctuary
What was your motivation to take a gap break?
I wanted to experience a completely different life style to what I was use to and Africa immediately drew me into what it could offer me, along with all the different types of animals and the amazing scenery.
Although I knew it wasn't going to be holiday as such, I knew it would be better than a holiday and the experiences I had I will never forget and my love to travel has grown!
How did you feel before you joined the programme?
I was excited and a little bit nervous, I mostly looking forward to escaping a boring England and the weather!
How did Real Gap assist you?
The background information was very helpful and gave me a good insight. |

What was the accommodation like?
The accommodation was fine, I wasn't expecting luxury! It was a basic room, with a few shelves and home made wardrobe - which I helped to sand down! Separate boys and girls shower rooms. Nice hot water as well!

What did you think of the programme?
I thought the programme was well planned by the people running it, Cilla- the volunteer manger was very welcoming to suggestions made by us - which was important. I felt part of the project and it was like a big family. Everyone was caring and supportive.
It gave me insight to what it was like to live their life there and got the impression that it was really a dream for them to be living their life how they were. I felt very privileged that i had been a part of it. |
What was the most memorable moment of your trip?
Loads!
- Sitting by the fire at night with everyone, looking up at the amazing stars
- Being mummy to a baby baboon called Davey - I miss him so much! Taking him for showers!
- Going in the cheetahs and grooming them
- Looking after all the animals and having them there with you all the time.
- Meeting new people - different races, different countries
Did your programme and destination meet your expectations?
Yes it did and more! I'm already planning my next destination.
What do you feel you accomplished during your programme?
Travelling by myself - it was a lot more exciting than I thought, I mostly thought it would be scary!
How have you benefited from your experience? How have you changed?
I've learnt that I can cope with a lot more than I thought and I am quite an adaptable person. My taste for travelling has grown hugely! |

What advice could you offer to someone considering this programme?
Be open to what ever what comes your way, don't be scared - just respect every thing and be thankful that you are in such an amazing country.
