Gap Year Project: Outback Ranch for Beginners
 |
I have just finished my first week with the Outback Ranch Training crew. It was probably one of the most unbelievable experiences of my life, I have never learnt so much in one week.
It was hard work and it is an experience suited to those who are prepared to work hard in extreme heat.
We were picked up at Brisbane Airport. I was with a couple of girls who I have now got to know quite well. We stayed the night in Brisbane Backpackers, which was really nice, clean and tidy and had a swimming pool. The rooms even had their own bathrooms and, with only four to a room, you get to know the others on the course.
|
We then moved to Rainbow Beach, which settled us in to the time zones and temperature. We then moved to the Ranch near Goomeri, where I was lucky enough to stay and do my training.
Over the four days we covered Cattle Mustering, working with the cattle, fencing, chainsaw work, quad biking and two wheel bikes. We learnt the basis necessary for the jobs that we would be offered.
I am now down near Canberra at a place called Yass. I am working with stock ponies, training them for the owner who will then sell them at the sales before the cattle mustering season starts.
I would recommend this course to anyone with a passion for working in the outdoors! |
