Gap year jobs in Japan and gap year paid work in Japan

Gap year jobs in Japan - Gap year Jobs in Japan programmes

Most people who want to earn some money as well as travel on their gap year tend to head to the better-known gap year working destinations such as Australia and the USA. However if you would like to do something a bit different and experience working in a totally different environment on your gap year, then jobs in Japan are an excellent option. A great thing about jobs in Japan is that they are also generally well paid. Jobs in Japan are an excellent opportunity to save up a decent amount of cash while you are away in order to fund your travels. To apply for jobs in Japan you need to be aged 18-30 and to apply for a special visa beforehand. Real Gap can help with the whole process of getting paid jobs in Japan - see our ‘Paid Work in Japan' page for details. As with all of our programmes, Real Gap offers as much assistance as possible in helping you to apply for the visa - giving you more time to concentrate on the all-important matter of deciding what type of jobs in Japan you would like to apply for.

One of the most common jobs in Japan is to teach English and there are numerous openings available in this field. However if teaching English isn't something that especially appeals to you there are many other types of jobs in Japan you can apply for. Some of the jobs in Japan gap year travellers on the Real Gap programme have found in the past include jobs as diverse as acting, web design and research. There are jobs in Japan available throughout the country, not just the larger cities such as Tokyo. If you would like to apply for jobs in Japan more off the beaten track there are support offices for the programme based in eleven different Japanese locations - meaning you will receive as much local back-up and help in these places as you would anywhere else.

Travellers taking jobs in Japan are encouraged to learn some Japanese during their time in Japan, and help is also provided with finding a suitable language school in which to enrol for lessons. Learning Japanese isn't actually necessary for finding jobs in Japan, but learning the language can be a lot of fun and will definitely help add to the overall experience of taking jobs in Japan.

The jobs in Japan geared towards backpackers are very casual, so travellers aren't tied down to one particular job all of the time if they don't wish to be. Aside from experiencing a new culture and saving money, the most important aspect of doing any jobs in Japan on your gap year is to see the country and do some travelling. Because the jobs in Japan are so flexible there is plenty of opportunity to take time off away from the work and do some travelling. Japan is an extremely easy country to travel around and an absolute ‘must do' experience in Japan is travelling on one of the high speed ‘bullet' trains to another part of the country. Because you are not tied down to one specific job in Japan, (unlike working holiday visa schemes in some other countries), you can take as many jobs in Japan as you wish. This means it is perfectly possible to do jobs in Japan in different parts of the country - making it possible to experience living and working in more than one area of Japan.

If you have any more specific queries about the range of jobs in Japan that are possible, or anything else related to travelling to Japan on a gap year, call one of Real Gap's travel advisors.
