Gap Year BrochureJobs Overseas

Jobs overseas are an ideal way to make your savings go further when you're on a year out.  You won't necessarily earn a fortune but the wages will definitely mean you'll be able to spend a lot longer away.

Aside from the money-making aspect of jobs overseas, they're also a brilliant way to meet both other travellers and local people. Many other travellers will be in the same position as you, so there's a good chance you'll end up working with some of them. When you work on a job overseas you also get to know local people on a daily basis, giving you a far greater understanding and knowledge of the local culture.

There's an extremely diverse range of jobs overseas available these days too. Compared to the traditional image of backpackers working behind a bar, backpackers nowadays enjoy a wealth of choice when it comes to jobs overseas. Jobs overseas can be anything teaching in Tokyo to working in a call centre in Sydney. Many jobs overseas can be pre-arranged before you depart as well; taking away the stress and worry of the prospect of job-hunting halfway round the world.

If you're after jobs overseas you need to consider what sort of work you fancy doing and where you'd like to do it. New Zealand and Australia are particularly good destinations for jobs overseas as, if you're aged between 18 and 30, you can apply for a working holiday visa for either of these two countries. If you're travelling round the world both these countries are also approximate halfway points in which you can settle for a short while, take a job overseas and then set off again for your next destination having saved up some more money to fund your travels.

If you're thinking about jobs overseas you needn't restrict yourself to only working in an English-speaking country either, even if you don't have a second language. Teaching is a really useful skill to have if you want to take jobs overseas. You can Teach English as a Foreign Language, (TEFL), in numerous destinations throughout the world. In some countries it's not even absolutely essential to have a TEFL qualification either.

Another popular option for jobs overseas with travellers is to work in the USA as part of their Student Summer Programme. As long as you're returning to full-time study afterwards you can take a job overseas in the USA over the long summer break, (with the guarantee of a work placement before you leave), and then travel the States afterwards.

Jobs overseas don't just have to be a boring way of earning some extra money while you're away travelling. If you do some research before you go you'll have every chance of securing a job overseas that you'll really enjoy. What's more, when you return home you'll have something good to put on your CV as well.
