Kanjar Community Development
A very important aim of this project is to get the Kanjar community to understand why it is so important for them to be treated as equals by the rest of society. Without this understanding the communities will have no hope in getting access to hygiene facilities, health and education. For many years, the Kanjar have been a community of their own due to the fact that it is such a struggle to integrate into society in general.
Volunteer RoleTo achieve this integration and to achieve the equality that the community needs you will be involved in helping to empower the Kanjar people and helping them to develop as a community.
- Helping the Kanjars find empowerment, dignity and self- respect by encouraging and strengthening communication within the Kanjar community and with Indian society as a whole.
- Creating and strengthening inter-community relationships between Kanjar and non-Kanjar communities.
- Educating and improving the education of pre-teen children, getting more children enrolled and keeping up attendance.
- Raising awareness about the importance of neglected areas, such as health, hygiene and sanitation, human rights, education and the empowerment of women.
- Getting the Kanjar’s to actively help themselves. This is particularly aimed at women and children who have been forced into prostitution and mistreated, physically, by police.
- Helping, supporting and encouraging the in-country volunteers to continue using their knowledge, skills and expertise to fight for the cause.
