India Kanjar Community Outreach

Trip code: INKJ

A very important aim of this project is to get the Kanjar community to understand why it is so important for them to be treated as equals by the rest of society. Without this understanding the communities will have no hope in getting access to hygiene facilities, health and education. For many years, the Kanjar have been a community of their own due to the fact that it is such a struggle to integrate into society in general.

Your Typical Itinerary

Week 1
Your first day will be spent in Delhi. You will be accommodated in a hotel in the city, in a shared room with access to all the usual amenities. You will be informed by project staff as to when you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to Delhi Rail Station where you will take an overnight train to Jhalawar.

Over the next few days in Jhalawar the group will have a welcome meeting, orientation, the chance to meet the teachers on the project, visit the community and schools and have the weekend free to explore Jhalawar.

Schedule for 4/8/12 week volunteers
For the remainder of your programme you will be taking part in the volunteer work in Jhalawar as outlined above, with the weekends free. On weekends, popular places to visit are Jaipur, Pushkar and Jodhpur. At the end of your programme you will depart for Delhi via train and after having the day free in Delhi it will be time to leave for the airport for your onward travels or to stay and explore India.

Please note: Itineraries and activities are subject to change based on the evolving needs of the community.
