Kenya Gap Experience
Why do a community volunteer project? These projects provide an opportunity to experience the Real Africa and help people and communities less fortunate than you. The local people are warm and friendly and will welcome you into their community, allowing you to learn firsthand about their culture. You will be able to enjoy your visit to Africa at the same time as giving something back.
Where is the volunteer project? The base camp is located 50 km south of Mombasa in a small rural community nestled in the coastal bush and on the edge of the mangroves. Fringed by palm trees, it is a beautiful, un-spoilt location and you will witness real African community life happening around you day by day.
Where will I stay? The accommodation varies between locations, but always consists of basic but very comfortable, tented units or chalets. Special attention has been made for the environmental/climate considerations (i.e. it's really hot!) and the tents are light, airy, cool and fully netted to reduce mosquito/insect risk.
When can I volunteer? The volunteer project runs throughout the year, so start dates are available every month, except April and May. Whether you are taking a full gap year, a short holiday to Africa this placement would be a great volunteer experience for you.
Who volunteers on this project? Volunteers from all backgrounds aged 18 to 24 take part in this volunteer experience in Africa. Most volunteers come from Europe, in particular the UK.
