Kenya

Kenya lies astride the equator on the eastern coast of Africa. It is bordered in the north by Sudan and Ethiopia, in the east by Somalia, on the southeast by the Indian Ocean, on the Southwest by Tanzania and the west by Lake Victoria and Uganda.

With its vast plains teeming with abundant wildlife, the annual migration of a million wildebeest and zebras across the Maasai Mara, the snow capped peak of Mount Kenya and the spectacular palm fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean, Kenya’s natural environment and cultural heritage is unrivalled in Africa.

Weekend Activities
Weekends spent in the bush are quiet, peaceful and very relaxing. This is a great opportunity for you to catch up with some sleep, write your journals, prepare a large and delicious camp meal and do your washing at the river.

You will also have the opportunity to head to the local Maasai villages and spend time with the people there, playing with their children and enjoying the observation of their native culture and ways of life.

There is also a small town named Loitokitok, where you will go to get your supplies each weekend. The town is over an hour away by vehicle and provides you with the opportunity to purchase any personal items and also use the internet at the local office: However, there is only one computer, so be prepared for a long queue.

At the elephant project, you will usually go to the Serena Hotel on a Sunday, where you can treat yourself to a massage, have tea or coffee, surf the net or take a well deserved swim after 4pm.

Tours after your Project
Being in Kenya means that you are close to Nairobi, which is a major transport hub for overland tours as the gateway to Eastern and Southern Africa.

We have a number of different tours to choose from which could take you down into Tanzania and the famous Zanzibar Spice Island. You could choose to visit Victoria Falls or even travel the whole distance into Cape Town or Johannesburg in South Africa, via Botswana or Namibia.

We have tours that last from 7 days to 56. Please contact us to enquire about these options and we will be happy to send you further details and help you explore Africa in a safe and adventurous way.

Getting There
You will need to fly into Nairobi Airport in Kenya. From here you will be met by our African Representatives and transferred to the Kenya Comfort Inn or Suites for your first night of accommodation.

This will allow you time to relax and get good night’s sleep after your long flight, before heading out the following morning into the African bush.
