A Typical Day on the Project

Please be aware that your itinerary may somewhat differ for this, depending on the number of other volunteers on the placement and what experience you have. Use this itinerary as example only.

This is how a typical volunteer day/week might take shape:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday

  • 7:00 Time to wake up
  • 7:30 Have breakfast at the volunteer base
  • 8:00 Head out to the project – hospital/orphanage
  • 12:30 Lunch break – either at the placement or you can be taken back to the volunteer house for lunch.
  • 14:00 Back to the placement
  • 17:00 project work ends for the day

Please note: Every other Wednesday you will be taking part in the local communities feeding programme, very important work.

Tuesday and Thursdays

  • 7:30 Up and ready for the project/ breakfast
  • 8:30 Head out to Nairobi to work at the slums. The drive takes 1-1.30hr
  • 9:00 Help at the clinic/ schools/ orphanages/ home based care
  • 13:30 Lunch, locally
  • 14:30 Pick up – with stop off at a shopping centre for banking, Internet and any shopping you want to do.

At the end of a volunteer day you will be picked up by the coordinator and returned to the volunteer cottage. Once you are there you can relax, socialise, check emails, watch TV or wander the beautiful gardens. Evenings are usually a sociable affair!

Volunteers sit around and discuss the day together, have dinner and prepare for the following days project. You can even head out to the amazing viewpoints looking over the Rift Valley – just 20 minutes drive away, where you can really enjoy the sunset.
