The project is based in the West Kenyan town of Kimilili and reinforces our current community project. While the initial programme focuses on providing healthcare, food, clothing and education to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, this programme provides educational and physical educational opportunities that a number of these children would not receive. Sport is a fundamental part of every child’s upbringing, however, it is an area in which rural areas of Kenya are most lacking.

Kenya
Kenya lies astride the equator on the Eastern coast of Africa. Kenya is bordered in the north by Sudan and Ethiopia, in the east by Somalia, on the southeast by the Indian Ocean, on the southwest by Tanzania and to the west by Lake Victoria and Uganda. Kenya is notable for its geographical variety. The low-lying, fertile coastal region, fringed with coral reefs and islands, is back by a gradually rising coastal plain, a dry region covered with savannah and thornbush.

Revered by many anthropologists as the ‘cradle of humanity’, Kenya is wild and a natural beauty. If you’ve ever fantasised about Africa – sleeping in the bush surrounded by wildlife and the local Maasai people – then Kenya is for you. For many, Kenya means wildlife. Up to a million wildebeest and zebras cross Southern Kenya on their migration, attracting an entourage of predators. It’s hard to beat the sight of elephants in front of Kilimanjaro, and safari out on foot amongst the natural surroundings of the reserves.

Getting There
You need to arrange your return internal flights from Nairobi to Kisumu Airport for the project start date. Here you will be met by your project coordinators.

Upon departure, you will be transported back to Kisumu Airport in order to catch the internal flight to Nairobi International Airport for your onward journey.

Extra Activities On Your Programme
The rural area where the programme is situated is very beautiful and there are many natural landmarks such as waterfalls and caves to visit. The programme is also 60km from Kitale where there is a local game reserve that you can visit.

Tours after your Project
Being in Kenya means that you are close to the Maasai Mara, amongst other popular destinations, so why not combine your work placement with a tour? We have a number of different tours, from 3 days to 56, from Nairobi to Cape Town.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to enquire about these options, and we will be happy to send you further details and help you explore Africa.
