Kiwi Conservation is an excellent way to explore the north island of New Zealand. Volunteering is a fantastic way to experience New Zealand. You could go there primarily to take part in this voluntary work, or spend a few weeks volunteering before travelling to other parts of the country! You will be getting involved in hands-on environmental projects and meeting volunteers from all over the world.

Volunteer Role

Due to the ever changing climatic and environmental conditions we cannot guarantee exactly what you will be doing, however, some typical tasks include; tree planting, coastal restoration, pest plant removal, track maintenance, flora and fauna surveying and habitat restoration.

Project Location

Your experience will begin in Auckland, and the projects take place in and around this famous city – know as the City of Sails, in it’s stunning location on the Hauraki Gulf. Projects do take place both within urban areas, as well as more rural locations, such as the Waitakere ranges, which overlook the wild west coast. There are also some opportunities to take part in projects in some of gulf’s inner island at sea!

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation varies each week depending on where the projects are located. Typical accommodation includes caravans, hostels, bunkhouses and camping (tents supplied). All food is included, but you will need to muck in and help with meal preparation and washing up!
