We begin in Seattle and head due north into Canada. We first stop at Vancouver where we will spend one night. We leave the city following the Fraser River Canyon to the Thompson River. Here you have an opportunity to go white water rafting! We drive through ancient lands of the Native North Americans on our way to the glacier-surrounded Stewart Canyon. Next stop is Hyder Alaska, the southern most city in Alaska where you can get up early for a chance at seeing bears and wolves catching fish from the river.
Our journey heads back into Canada and up the dirt and gravel Cassiar Highway. This logging road passes through lush mountain scenery before we reach our lakeside campground of Moose Meadows. Canoe on the Cotton Lake or hike local trails. We continue our journey into the Yukon Territory and the frontier town of Whitehorse. Here you get a first hand look at old time music halls and taverns from the Yukon gold rush. Further north still we stop at Dawson City for some gambling at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s. If you don’t fancy gambling then why not pan for gold at the Bonanza Mine or watch the sunset atop Midnight Dome.
The Top of the World Highway takes us into Alaska along the Alaska Range and the Tangle Lakes to Mt McKinley. Take time to hike this beautiful and isolated landscape of Denali National Park. From Denali we head south to Anchorage and the stunning Kenai Peninsula where breathtaking scenery is easy to find! View the blue icebergs of Portage Lake; hike to the nearest glacier, take a boat ride down to the sea and view more marine life than ever before!
We travel past Matanuska Glacier on our way to Wrangell- St Elias National Park, America’s largest park. Here we can explore the Copper River and the snowy peaks of the Wrangell Mountains.
The final portion of our trip takes us to Kluane National Park and the historic town of Skagway Alaska. From Skagway we catch a ferry through the glorious inner passage for a 4-day cruise to Vancouver.
