Project: Romania Child Care Volunteer
Volunteer: Lauren Downes

Please contact us for more information about volunteering in Romania

How was your experience in Romania?
Great!! Despite the manic driving and excessive rain (it's lucky I'm from England!!).

I'm really glad I went to Romania. Bucharest was a great choice as it enabled me to travel to another part of the world without a major lifestyle change or culture shock.

Sinaia was a really beautiful place to visit, as were the many parks in Bucharest. I have every intention of returning!

What did you think of the Project?
The Creative team are doing some really brilliant and worthwhile work, and all the staff and local volunteers were so welcoming, and just fantastic really! They even helped me to celebrate my birthday in style!

I was able to help at Sta Macrina, a residential home for children which was a 2 minute walk away and I loved it there!

The kids there taught me pretty much all the Romanian I know!

What was the accommodation like?
Staying at the headquarters was great as it meant I was really close to two of the projects. Also, it enabled me to get to know lots of local people, as opposed to other travellers and gave me fewer opportunities to get lost!

Were you pleased you went with Real Gap?
Definitely! Daniela organised everything for me at such short notice, kept me updated on changes and developments, and answered all 70 thousand (only a slight over exaggeration I think!) of my panicky questions so I had no worries!!

Thank you!!
