Making a Difference in Buenos Aires
Despite its tourist image as a colourful, vibrant area of the city, La Boca is also one of Buenos Aires’ most impoverished neighbourhoods with many families struggling to survive on meagre incomes.
Volunteer RoleVolunteering at the 'Make A Difference' project is about inspiring the children of La Boca to set their sights high and giving them that extra bit of support and encouragement that they so often lack.
This project attempts to foster a strong relationship between volunteers and children with the aim of creating a welcoming, positive atmosphere. On the whole, the children are hugely sociable and keen to engage with volunteers. The centre where the programme is based runs educational and practical workshops for children, adolescents and adults.
Examples of these workshops include:
- English classes
- Homework support
- Courses helping adults to learn how to read and write
LocationThe project is based in the famous La Boca neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
Accommodation and MealsAccommodation is in a student residence in Buenos Aires within walking distance of the project. This is a great opportunity to socialise and meet fellow volunteers and students!
You'll need to budget and cook your own meals whilst at the residence. Supermarkets are just a stones throw away or you can try out the local dishes at one of the many nearby restaurants.
