Malawi Sports Coaching and Teaching
Malawi schools are typical of many others in the developing parts of Africa – the children out number the teachers and in a number of instances, the ratio is well over 150:1. Sport therefore has no priority, adequate facilities or dedicated people to teach and play with the children.
Join this sports volunteer programme to help teach sport in schools. Based in Monkey Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi, you will have a vital role to teach children different sports such as football, volleyball and netball.
Volunteer RoleVolunteers are needed to lighten the load on teachers in 4 local schools. You can perform a number of roles on this project, some of which include:
- Teaching sports in schools – popular sports requiring volunteers are netball, volleyball and football
- Organise after-school events such as clubs, tournament and matches
- Work with local teams to assist coaches & gain experience
- Teach academic subjects in the mornings such as English, maths or vocational skills
Due to the weather, most sports activities are in the afternoons and evenings when temperatures are cooler. This leaves volunteers with the opportunity to relax on the beach in the mornings, go to local areas of interest or give more support to the schools through extra teaching.
