Travel to Malaysia is an excellent gap year option – especially if you’re planning a travel to Southeast Asia on a round the world ticket. A great way to travel to Malaysia is by fitting it in to your itinerary either before or after you’ve visited Thailand. Many gap year travellers visiting this part of the world by-pass travelling in Malaysia – and they really miss out. There’s so much to see and do if you travel to Malaysia – pristine tropical beaches, the rainforests of Borneo and the lush Cameron Highlands to name just three.

If you’d like voluntary work abroad on a wildlife conservation project when you’re travelling in Malaysia there are some real ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ programmes you can get involved with. 	Borneo Pygmy Elephant and Orangutan Conservation Tour

Help protect endangered Pygmy elephants, see wild orangutans and proboscis monkeys, take a river safari and visit Kinabalu National Park. You'll stay in a comfortable riverside eco-lodge, in the heart of the jungle.


	Malaysia Coral Reef and Turtle Conservation

After taking or upgrading a PADI diving certificate, you’ll be able to dive in Malaysia’s clear blue waters, swimming among the marine life and helping protect turtle eggs and coral.

	Orang-utan Experience Volunteer Malaysia

Work with orang-utans in a zoo, before seeing them in a rehabilitation centre and the wild. The trip takes you deep into the Bornean jungle, where you’ll help build trails and get to know the Iban tribes.


	Turtle and Dive Volunteer Malaysia

Learn to scuba dive and help protect endangered turtles. Observe and record the turtles’ behaviour as they lay eggs and help clear the beaches of debris. Get an internationally recognised diving certificate, too
