Malaysia Orang-Utan and Wildlife Experience

Work with animals such as Orang-Utans, reptiles, Apes and Cats in a zoo to improve their living conditions and help to stimulate their natural behaviour. You will also contribute towards conservation and community development by visiting local schools to teach them about nature and the environment.

Orang-utans

The Volunteer Programme

On this programme you will have the unique opportunity to work with Orang-utans and other animals in a Malaysian Zoo, take part in a visit to a Wildlife Centre to see Orang-utans in rehabilitation and spend time in a rural Malaysian village contributing towards conservation and community development.

Activities include:

  • Conservation work
  • Habitat restoration through replanting and maintenance of rainforest areas
  • Wildlife Population Density Data Collection from Orang-Utans and Pygmy Elephants (this data will be used for NGO and University research)
  • Community Development - visiting schools to teach local children about nature and the environment

What’s Included in the Programme

  • All accommodation - simple, basic and with bags of character - based on dorm style with a minimum of two persons sharing
  • Food - inclusive as part of food allowance or meals will be provided - please see itinerary for details
  • Meet and greet on start date
  • Orientation and welcome dinner
  • Private transfers on specified days to all hostels, lodges and destinations
  • Local guides and specialists
