What airport will I need to fly to?
You will need to arrange your flights to arrive at Wuyishan Airport in China. Most international flights will go via Beijing, making a total journey time of 16-18 hours. The Wuyishan Airport code is WUS.
How much are flights to Wuyishan?
Flights to Wuyishan from London typically cost £550-£650 off peak and £750-£850 peak. The price will be dictated by how much notice you give when booking and availability of seats.
Do I need a visa for China?
Yes. All travellers to China from the UK require a tourist visa at a minimum. A standard tourist visa lasts for 30 days, so anyone planning on staying for longer periods will require a different classification of visa.
To apply for a different classification, the Martial Arts Academy will issue a letter of invitation.
How many hours a day will I train for?
The average day will involve approximately 5-6 hours of training, depending how much fitness and personal training you choose to do. This training can be supplemented with Mandarin lessons.
How will I be allocated to a group?
At the start of your programme, a Master will discuss with you which Martial Art you wish to focus on and how much experience you have. Your group will be of relative ability in the same Art Form.
Will I have access to the internet at the academy?
The academy has a computer room that you will be able to access in the evenings during your free time. There is internet access, for you to use your emails etc. The academy has a fast dial-up connection, so if you wish to bring your own laptop, you will need an in-built modem plus a cable.
Where can I buy snacks and drinks etc?
The academy is close to a number of local traders, where you can buy a large amount of local fruit very cheaply. There is also a shop at the academy where many Chinese and Western snacks can be bought.
Can I drink alcohol at the academy?
Drinking alcohol goes against a number of the principles the Kung Fu will teach you, so alcohol is not to be consumed at the academy.
What can I do during my free time?
The Academy is surrounded by a number of National Parks. You can also take trips to the local areas at the weekends.
