Mozambique Community Development

Trip code: MOCD

Take part in vital community support and development schemes within rural African villages. This varied and valuable project will see you working closely with the local African children at an exciting rural pre-school project and the community to provide shelter, education, sports and workshops to those who need it most.

Volunteer Role

As a volunteer on this project, you will take part in a variety of areas such as teaching at an early learning preschool centre, teaching English to eager young adults, work with children at a local orphanage, and traditional building for disadvantage individuals or community groups. By taking part in this programme you will also gain an invaluable insight into the everyday lives of local Mozambique communities of Africa. During your free time you will also be able to relax and enjoy Mozambique's optional excursions including Open Water PADI certificate.

As a volunteer on the Mozambique Community Development Programme, you can get involved in the following:

  • English lessons
  • Preschool teaching
  • Building for the disadvantaged
  • Cultural Days
  • Orphan care and development work
  • HIV/AIDS Workshops (occur once every 4-6 weeks)
  • Vilanculos Community Project

What’s Included in the Programme

  • Project Fee: this entails financing that goes directly back into the project that you are involved with. This project fee facilitates funding for items such as teaching materials, sports equipment, supplies, etc, as well as the development of the actual programme
  • Orientation and introductions to project work upon your arrival
  • A cultural day involving an insight into the traditional lifestyles of the local area, including traditional food, dancing, drumming and singing
  • All daily transportation to and from the project
  • Full board and lodging which includes three meals a day at your volunteer accommodation
  • Assistance and full support in your projects by African staff and volunteer co-ordinators

What’s Not Included in the Programme

  • All flights
  • Personal travel insurance for the duration of your placement (expected to include cover for repatriation)
  • All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing (work and other)
  • E-mail/Internet and telephone calls
  • Soft drinks, wines and spirits
  • Visas for Mozambique, as well as departure tax $30 when you leave the airport
  • Any excursions over and above your planned itinerary in Mozambique
