Namibia Medical Volunteer
|
Volunteer Requirements
There are no specific requirements to join this project. Volunteers with medical qualifications are encouraged to apply, but equally unqualified volunteers are welcome to take part and will be supervised by a qualified volunteer or doctor at the hospital or clinic where he/she is placed.
As this is a new project, volunteers are asked to be flexible and accommodating to the project coordinators and to help out where possible.
Katima Mulilo hospital has most of the major facilities and functions that you would expect including radiography, maternity, surgery and a chemist. The private doctors working in the town are typically expatriate doctors from South Africa and act as general practitioners, consulting on a variety of medical cases.
The small rural medical clinics, meanwhile, are located at various sites throughout Namibia’s remote Caprivi Region and are staffed by a single doctor. These clinics have limited capabilities, and the more serious cases are referred to Katima Mulilo hospital.
Project Support Your project support will come from the superb in-country team of project co-ordinators who will be on hand to answer questions and give advice. You will also be supported and supervised on a day to day basis by the nurses and doctors that you are working with.
Project Orientation You will have an orientation on your arrival into Katima Mulilo. The orientation will include plenty of information on the project and your role as a volunteer on it as well as a tour of Katima Mulilo and an introduction to all the people you will be working with.
