Weather
Dry season falls between October & May, and the wet between June & September. Summer falls between May and September when temperatures reach up to 30C.
Free time You will have plenty of free time to explore Nepal. The scenery is breathtaking and there are plenty of opportunities to take in the ancient culture of the area.
There are many interesting places to visit in Nepal. Pohkara is one of Nepal’s main cities and differs in terms of feel and look. The famed soldiers, the Gurkhas, come from around here and so it is more prosperous and calm than Kathmandu. Visit the large lake and the temple island. You will get magnificent views of the Annapurna Range, a truly breathtaking site.
Patan is in the Kathmandu Valley, only 5 Km from Kathmandu. It is known as the City of Fine Arts and is full of Hindu and Buddhist temples.
At the centre of the attractions is Patan Durbar Square, a complex of ancient palaces, temples and shrines in the heart of the town. This place is packed with temples to everyone imaginable, including Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna and Lord Buddha, all dating back as far as 250 B.C.
English Speaking Assistance During your orientation 4 days you will have an English speaking co-coordinator. Whilst at your placement your co-coordinator will visit you every other week and will be calling you twice a week to see how you are getting on. You will also have 24-hour contact number should you experience any problems.
Spending Money Nepal is very cheap and as most of your food and all accommodation is included, I would advise working on a budget of about £30-40 per week.
Gay & Lesbian Travellers Homosexuality is officially illegal in Nepal, even holding hands can be frowned upon. Please be aware of this when choosing your volunteer placement.
Getting there You will need to book a flight into Kathmandu airport. Upon arrival in Kathmandu you will spend you first night in a hotel where you have a chance to relax after your flight and meet your fellow volunteers.
