Why
volunteer in Nepal?
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, with many underprivileged children. The need for volunteers is relatively high compared to other countries and although the concept of volunteering there is new, volunteers are still well received. Over the coming years, Nepal will become a more popular place for travellers, backpackers, gap year students etc, as it becomes more accessible.

If you wish to see a true authentic culture in one of the most beautiful settings in the world, then volunteer in Nepal.

Why teach English in Nepal?
Nepal is an excellent place to teach English as a volunteer. With the growth of tourism, the need to speak English is getting higher, which means there is a shorter supply of English teachers. Volunteers are needed to supplement this increase in demand.

Where do I stay in Nepal?
You will live with a local Nepalese family, in a home-stay situation, in the village where you teach. This is an excellent chance to get a good insight into the Nepali way of life and the culture.

Where will I be based?
You will be based in Kathmandu, Pokhara or Chitwan.

Where will I stay?
You will live with a local family in the village relevant to your placement. If you would prefer to stay in hotel accommodation this can be arranged but we be an extra cost.

When can I volunteer?
The project takes volunteers all year-round.

Do I need a visa?
You will be issued with a visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will need to complete an application form and provide a passport photograph, the visa on arrival will cost US$30 and is payable in US$.

What will the weather be like?
Nepal has two monsoons per year. The dry season runs from October to May and the wet from June to September. Summer is May to September with temperatures reaching 30 degrees (May and early June, the months before the monsoon are the hottest).  Even in the winter months October to April, the bright sunny days can reach 20 degrees but plummets at night.

How much money should I take?
We would recommend that you budget between £30 per week.

Currency
The Nepali rupee (Rs) is divided into 100 paisa (p). There are coins for denominations of five, 10, 25 and 50 paisa, and for one, two, five and 10 rupees but these are not in wide circulation so you will mostly deal in notes. Bank notes come in denominations of one, two, five, 10, 2, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 rupees.

What is the food like?
Most meals will consist of a dish called dal bhaat tarakari, 'lental soup', rice and curried vegetables.  You may also have pickles, bread, curd, yoghurt or crispy fried thin pancake.

What is the time difference?
Nepal is 4 hours 45 minutes ahead of the UK
