Nepal is a landlocked state between India and China; it has the highest mountains and rainforests on the planet. Diversity is also apparent in Nepal's culture, it has fifty languages and two major religions: Buddhism and Hinduism. Real Gap's Nepal Highlights

The City of Kathmandu

Kathmandu is situated in a valley in the heart of the Himalayas; it has a rich historical background and a very refined culture. The old city is well known for its many Buddhist and Hindu temples and palaces, most famously Durbar Square. It contains a magnificent royal palace, along with many temples built in traditional Newar, Pagoda style.

Map of Nepal

Mount Everest
Everest is part of the Himalayan range located between Nepal and Tibet, China; it's considered the highest mountain range in the world. The best way to experience Nepal is to take part on the Everest Expedition; this programme encompasses a 12 night epic journey to the Everest base camp with community volunteering, rafting and jungle trek. On your journey you will see the very best that Nepal has to offer, while giving local communities something back in return.

Pokhara
On the edge of the Pokhara Valley, it's here some of the most spectacular scenery in Nepal can be seen. The Seti River has dug incredible canyons into the floor of the Seti Gandaki Valley. These canyons are visible from high viewpoints and they are absolutely stunning.

In addition there are a variety of activities to choose from including teaching in schools, teaching in a monastery, learn Buddhism, teach at an orphanage and medical projects; have a look at our Nepal Teaching English Volunteer Programme.
