The project group is doing broad-ranging and important habitat-conservation work in the Reno area of Nevada. You’ll be working hard during the day, and camping out under the vast open skies at night. And there will be plenty of time to enjoy this fantastic part of the world, as the schedule allows for periods of free time between project shifts, so you can get to see all the great sights.
Age restrictions To take part in this project you must be between 18 and 35 years old.
The Nevada conservation volunteer programme Projects that begin usually last for either six weeks or three months for exact project lengths please see the current start dates avaiable. A typical itinerary might contain between four and eight ten-hour days in the field, which would be followed by three to six days off. So, as well as helping with this important ecological project, you can enjoy some of the greatest sights to be found anywhere in the world – maybe Yosemite and Zion National Parks, Lake Tahoe, or the Big Sur in California.
Programme support Throughout the project you’ll have the support of the on-site staff. Before you leave home, we will provide you with a contact number for a member of the on-site staff, and a 24-hour emergency number to enable you to contact one of our UK staff in an emergency.
Programme introduction/orientation When you arrive at the project you’ll receive a full briefing and an outline of your itinerary. You will also be given specific instructions shortly before you embark on each particular assignment.
Your accommodation and meals Whilst working on projects, volunteer groups will be camping out near their particular placement, either out in the Nevada wilderness, or in designated camping grounds. Tents will be supplied, but volunteers are responsible for providing their own sleeping bags, and sleeping mats. All meal will be cooked in the camp’s shared catering area.
