Kiwi Conservation is an excellent way to explore the north island of New Zealand. Volunteering is a fantastic way to experience New Zealand. You could go there primarily to take part in this voluntary work, or spend a few weeks volunteering before travelling to other parts of the country! Project Orientation

After spending a couple of days in Auckland you will be met in the hostel reception on the Monday morning by your CVNZ team leader. At this time you will have an orientation which will include a health and safety briefing and further details about the projects that you will be taking part in. This is also the perfect time for you to ask your team leader any questions you have about your time on the project.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation varies each week depending on where the projects are located. Typical accommodation includes caravans, hostels, bunkhouses and camping (tents supplied). All food is included, but you will need to muck in and help with meal preparation and washing up!

Meals

You will be provided with three healthy meals each day. Vegetarians can of course be catered for – just let us know if you have any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Continental breakfasts are included while you are staying at the Auckland Central Backpackers Hostel, but lunch and dinner on these two days are not.

Free Time

Your working hours on the project will be from 8am – 4pm and you’ll have your weekends free. In the evenings you can chat to other volunteers, play cards, write your diary, read and generally chill out. Some volunteers bring their CD player with speakers. You may want to bring games with you. This is a fun way to make friends and pass the time.

Free time activities will depend on the location of the project that you are working on, but it is entirely possible that you will be close enough to a city or attraction, to be able to go and sightsee very easily. Your team leaders will know the areas well so will be able to offer you great ideas of what to see and do.

Project Support

Throughout your time on the project you will have the support and guidance of your team leader. You will be provided with competent assistance and help with any questions or advice you may need during your project.

In addition you will have access to a 24 hour emergency contact number so you can contact one of our UK staff at any time should you need to.

Project Age Limit

Minimum 18 years, maximum decided on potential participants health.

Project Requirements

Fitness
You should be in good health and reasonably fit. You will not be expected to work outside your own capabilities, but bare in mind the terrain and activities will vary! Teamwork is an essential element of this programme, as everyone will be working closely together.
