New Zealand Ski and Snowboard Instructor Courses
Train to become a qualified ski or snowboard instructor in New Zealand. With an internationally recognised qualification, you'll be able to work in ski resorts the world over!
Instructor Training ProgrammeWorking towards the NZSIA Stage 1 Qualification, you will not only receive professional training to improve your own technique and teaching methods, but also have the opportunity to work in a ski-school environment, picking up the tricks of the trade from working ski instructors.
CSI and NZSIA Level 1 Qualifications: There are 2 main qualifications you will be looking to complete during this ski/snowboarding instructor programme - the NZSIA CSI and NZSIA Stage 1. These are the New Zealand equivalent of Ski/Snowboard Instructor qualifications and are recognised worldwide.
- CSI: The Certificate in Ski Instruction (CSI) is an entry-level qualification that permits you to teach novices to advanced beginners. The course takes approximately 4 days to complete and requires you to demonstrate the ability to teach basic principles, analyse individual ability i.e. strengths and weaknesses, class handling, safety and to be able to deal with both children and adult beginners.
- NZSIA Stage 1 and SBINZ Stage 1:The New Zealand Snow-sports Instructor Alliance and Snow Boarding Instruction New Zealand Stage 1 course is a requirement for anyone looking to instruct skiing/snowboarding. It permits you to teach up to Advanced Intermediate level and is generally a minimum level qualification for anyone looking to work in a ski school. The course itself takes 5-8 days to fully complete and requires you to demonstrate the ability to:
Ski Course:
- Understand the basic teaching model and learning processes
- Teach basic turns to advanced parallel turns (with pole plant)
- Individual analysis
- Demonstrate knowledge and give information on technical processes
- Manage class safety and organisation
Snowboarding Course:
- Ride all groomed blue runs and off-piste areas with good form
- Competent demonstrations of level 3 and 4 freestyle elements i.e. riding switch on green runs, air 180 jumps, ollies etc
- Competent edged and skidded demonstrations on groomed trails
- Manage class handling and safety on the mountain terrain
Please note You should be an intermediate skier/rider and be at least 18 years old.

Accommodation and MealsAccommodation is included in the programme, students have private rooms. Meals are not included on the course. Students are encouraged to cater for themselves and should budget approximately £25/week for meals.
