New Zealand gap year - Gap year programmes in New Zealand

New Zealand is a fantastic gap year destination.

Get a gap year job in New Zealand. It's pretty easy to find work abroad in New Zealand. If you're aged between 18 and 30 you are eligible to apply for a working holiday visa for New Zealand. New Zealand is a particularly good place in which to work on your gap year in that there is plenty of choice in work and it's a natural halfway stopping off point when you're travelling round the world. If you're running low on money you can touch down in NZ and top up your funds with a bit of work before you set off again, and the new visa is good for 23 months!

NZ is great for adrenaline junkies

One thing New Zealand does possibly better than any other country in the world is adrenaline outdoor pursuits.
New Zealand has bungee-jumping, sky-diving, white-water rafting, black-water rafting (in underground caves), swimming with dolphins, paragliding, abseiling, high-speed river boating and mountain climbing. If you can think of an outdoor pursuit then the chances are you can do it in New Zealand. Queenstown, on the South Island, is known as the adventure capital of New Zealand and you can do most of these activities from there.

New Zealand's unique landscape

New Zealand possesses some of the most beautiful, unspoilt landscapes in the world. The recent ‘Lord of the Rings' movie trilogy was filmed entirely on location in New Zealand, and both the North and South islands have plenty to offer in the way of scenery. Hiking is a particularly popular pastime in New Zealand and is the best way of seeing everything the country has to offer. Milford Sound, on the South Island, is probably the most famous and spectacular of New Zealand's numerous hiking routes. Another highly recommended New Zealand walk is the Abel Tasman coastal route on the northeast of the South Island. Indeed, unspoilt beaches are a highlight throughout New Zealand - the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island has some of New Zealand's finest. Also on the North Island is the town of Rotorua, where you can see the famous thermal bubbling mud-pools.
