Work with and handle the wildlife of Africa at Noah’s Ark wildlife centre, in a unique programme where you will be helping to care for orphaned and injured animals in the beautiful desert land of Namibia. The animals that this wildlife centre homes range from lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog, to meerkat and baboon.
You will work as part of a large team, caring for the vast number of animals but also taking part in important development work of new enclosures and features for the programme. You will also work closely with the local Namibian bushmen at a rural medical clinic and also at the sanctuary.
Volunteer Role
The volunteer work in Namibia includes:
- Feeding the animals such as cheetahs and baboons
- Care for animals
- Cleaning the enclosures
- Assisting in the repair and building of structures on the farm,
- Acting as a field guide and assisting in the clinic with injured animals
If it is the right time of year and the centre is particularly busy then there is a possibility you may be involved in Wild Dog research. This will involve: identifying individual wild dogs, looking at family patterns and recording their eating habits.
Project LocationOur project takes you 312kms east of Windhoek, which is very close to the Botswana border, to the remote and stunning Omaheke region, which covers 4.9 million hectares of farming land.
Accommodation & MealsVolunteers are accommodated in a newly constructed working guest village, where they enjoy living closely with fellow volunteers in a large area, designed exclusively. You will be sleeping in Wendy house-style rondavels, which are very comfortable and can sleep 4 guests in each.
