Name: Paul Booth
Programme: Moldova Orphanage
Dates: 4th May 23rd May

How did you feel before you joined the programme?

Any Questions that I had I felt that I could ask and they were answered in a clear and concise way. Daniela was a great help and I felt confident and excited to go and work there.

What was the accommodation like?
The accommodation was fantastic, not at all like some of the typical Moldovan houses that I saw there. Very clean and I was made to feel very at home from the moment I walked through the door.

I had a large bedroom and practically my own bathroom. Gratiesti was a lovely little village just outside Chisinau with fantastic views from the church and a beautiful lake in walking distance.

What did you think of the programme?
The programme as a whole was all that I wanted it to be. I loved working at Salvati Copiii, the orphanage, because there was only 14 or 15 kids so I could get to know each one individually, which suited me just fine.

There were so many memorable moments for me. I loved the City and the food and the general warmth and kindness showed from the Moldovan people.

They may not be the most developed country in Europe, but in my travels I have never come across a people more friendly and caring. The most common question I got was 'how do you like our women?' to which I responded 'They're beautiful!' Which was definitely the truth! One Saturday with Sandu, Christina and Violeta we went to the theatre, which for me being an actor was a fantastic experience, as we saw King Lear in Russian. I could quite easily live in Chisinau, a vibrant City, where beautiful parks dotted about the centre.
How have you benefited from your experience?
I think I would have to say I've gained a different outlook on life and perspective. Working with the kids, who were brilliant by the way really gave me pleasure, seeing them have fun and I'm thank full that they let me be a small part of their lives.

What advice could you offer to someone considering this project?
Just to keep an open mind, bring some sun cream if you go in spring or summer and be prepared to have a fantastic time!
