Travel to Peru is an excellent choice for your gap year if you want to check out some of South America’s most incredible sights. If you travel to Peru with Real Gap you’ll visit all of the country’s ‘must see’ places – including Cusco, the Inca Trail to the ‘lost city’ of Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca and the mysterious Nazca lines. However when you’re travelling on a gap year to Peru with Real Gap we also endeavour to visit places more ‘off the beaten track’ that few other travellers venture to. What’s more, all of our programmes include Spanish tuition - which helps you get so much more from the experience when you’re travelling in Peru.
Peru is an intriguing place to spend your gap year or career break. The country is steeped in history and the remnants are evident everywhere. Peru has had a succession of great civilisations; You can wander around colonial cities, visit the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, explore the lost city of Machu Picchu and ponder the enigma of the Nazca Lines.
It also has some of the most spectacular and varied scenery in South America. The Peruvian Andes are arguably the most beautiful on the continent. These mountains are also home to millions of indigenous highlanders, who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and maintain a traditional way of life.
A particularly rewarding Peru travel option is to get involved with a volunteer work project while you’re out there. Just two of the things you could get up to if you volunteer in Peru include working on a river turtle conservation work programme in the Amazon and campaigning for improved working conditions for porters on the Inca Trail.
