Volunteer Role
There are a number of options open to volunteers depending on individual skills. Activities include helping in the classroom and helping with a variety of occupational activities. Extra help will also be needed to find funding and to market the project (current funding runs out soon). Teaching the children to prepare meals and to clean up afterwards is also a priority of the school.
As with many of our social placements, many of the children at the centre have never had a "real" childhood or experienced loving, caring, stable relationships. By playing games with volunteers they can learn to live as a child again and to share and express their emotions.
Volunteer’s affection towards the children is so important for their self-esteem and personal development.
Volunteers are required to help during the afternoons as the children attend school in the mornings. This is a great chance to make a difference in the lives of children who have had a bad start in life and to help build personalities and skills that will help them later in life.
