Name: Qamran Hussain
Programme: Goa, India
Dates: December 2006-January 2007
How did you feel before you joined the programme? How did Real Gap assist you with your expectations?
Katie Singleton was really helpful, she had explained what I'd be doing there, what to expect and answered any questions I had, so I think Realgap were really helpful in providing me with all the right information before I left.

What was the accommodation like?
The accommodation was great, while we were travelling on the first part of the programme we were staying in hotels, which were really good, they had great staff and tried their best to make everything as easy as they can for us. We were also camping for 2 nights, which was a brilliant experience, it's just something different, and to have done it in India was great. Finally the accommodation in Goa at the Camp was as pretty good, the staff there were excellent, they made us feel so at home and again tried their best to accommodate to whatever we asked for. |
How was your experience in the destination that you travelled to with Real Gap? It has been one of the best travelling experiences I have been on, I got to see the real India, we met several natives that we got to speak to and learn their ways of living, ate real Indian food, as while we were trekking we'd eat from the villagers houses!

What did you think of the programme? Everything about it was absolutely amazing especially the people, they are the most warm and affectionate people you may meet, especially the children at the school, they would give you so much respect, and were so obedient and willing to learn. It's just a great feeling knowing you're making a positive difference in their lives, and pointing them to the right direction to better their own lives.

How have you benefited from your experience? Yes, I have definitely learnt a lot more about myself and now feel I kind of know what I want to do in life, as before I was slightly clueless to where I wanted to be, and this was greatly to do with the people I was travelling with, they had so much life experience, I learnt a lot from them. I have also learnt to appreciate things a lot more, and am really grateful for what I have.

What advice could you offer to someone considering this project?
You just have to go there yourself, see everything for yourself and make your own experience, but you are definitely guaranteed a great time and will come back with so much more than you went with.
Were you pleased you went with Real Gap? Would you recommend Real Gap to a friend?
Yes I definitely would, everything was so organised and you were informed about everything you needed to know, and I am already looking at other programmes I'd like to go on!
