Orientation
On your first full day in Santiago you will be given a comprehensive orientation by one of the project co-ordinators. In addition, you will sit a brief test to determine your level of Spanish.
Accommodation and Meals
During your language course, you will stay with a Chilean host family. Living with a host family is a great way to further your learning outside the classroom! Our host families are from a local, middle-class background, who live in safe and attractive areas. You will have a private room, typically with a shared bathroom, and with some families a double room can be requested. Two to three meals a day will be provided, depending on the individual family. Distances to the school vary from a few minutes walk to 45 minutes by public transport. Laundry may or may not be included, depending on the location.
Students will be provided with a key to the front door and are free to come and go as they please. Naturally, respect for the host family's routine is a necessity. All families are carefully selected and must meet stringent requirements to be included on the programme. The families are close friends of the school and generally have been participating in the project for years, with countless positive evaluations from students!
Free time
Santiago has many sights and attractions worth a visit in your free time. You may choose to take a trip to the Viña Concha y Toro; a winery with guided tours and the opportunity to sample renowned local wines.
In addition, a tour of the Parque Forestal and Museo de Bellas Artes is recommended, introducing you to one of the most picturesque parks in Santiago and the city's most famous art museum.
A couple of excursions will be arranged for you each week by the on-site co-ordinator. You will only have to pay small out of pocket expenses, such as entrance fees etc.
Throughout your stay in Chile you will have the support and guidance of our on-site project coordinators. They will be at your disposal should you have any questions, queries or issues.
In addition, we provide you with a 24-hour emergency contact number prior to departure, enabling you to contact a UK member of staff at any time of day if necessary.
Project Age Limit
Minimum 18 years, maximum dependent upon individual participant’s health.
