Ski Instructor and Leadership Course (12 Weeks)
Programme Location Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, Canada
Canada Canada is synonymous with winter sports and has some of the biggest and best resorts anywhere in the world. It is also one of the most popular countries amongst gap year students and career breakers to go to during their time out. With beautiful mountains, pristine lakes and untouched alpine valleys, it is easy to see why.
Vancouver Island and Comox Valley Located on Vancouver Island and close to the Comox Valley, Mt Washington Ski Resort is one of the best-kept secrets in Canada. Unlike the major resorts of Whistler and Blackcomb, it’s not bulging at the seams with tourists and learner skiers – it’s used mainly by locals and offers its guests lots of untouched runs and fresh powder to enjoy! Another unique feature is that the mountain overlooks the Pacific Ocean, giving you the possibility of skiing one day and surfing the next. However, the main appeal is the regular snow and the vast backcountry areas to explore.
Resort Information Mount Washington is home to some of Canada’s best snow each year. That is a big feat considering the snow conditions in Canada are some of the best in the world! In fact, in 1995 Mt Washington resort received more snow than any other resort worldwide!
There are 7 main lifts in the resort and there is a total vertical drop of 505m. There are approximately 60 different runs, which are 20% beginner, 35% intermediate and 45% expert! However, with so much off-piste and backcountry on top of this to explore, it goes to show that this programme is for the true, hard-core skier.
How to Get There All students will need to fly to Vancouver International Airport and then take an internal flight to Comox airport. A number of internal flights go each day.
