South Africa Conservation Education through Photography
South Africa The most southern nation of the African continent is also its most developed, even though it still has quite a long way to go to get away from its somewhat dark past. It is the most beautiful country, from the top of Table Mountain that overshadows Cape Town, to the world class safari parks, the rugged subtropical coast to dry inland desert to the lush Garden Route and plentiful vineyards.
As a ‘megadiverse’ country, one of only a few in the world, South Africa boasts the best in flora and fauna as well as a mixture of aspects from all over the African continent…what are you waiting for?
St. Lucia The township of St. Lucia is based in the area known as one of South Africa’s top bush and beach destinations, on the country’s east coast, where the land meets the Indian Ocean. The entrance to the UNESCO World Heritage Wetland Park- iSimangaliso (formerly Greater St. Lucia) is really close to the township, making it a fantastic base to explore it from.
The park is packed full of more species than Kruger, mainly because it is the meeting point of 5 different eco-systems- swamp, savanna, dunes, marine and freshwater lakes, making it the premiere spot to see elephants, hippos, whales, turtles and loads of birds.
Climate South Africa is fantastic to visit at any time of year, the winter being cooler and dryer, but by no means cold and is also said to be the best time for wildlife spotting.
The only thing that you really need to bear in mind is when the South African schools have their holidays, as you’re likely to meet every one of the school kids in a National Park!
Getting There Flights into Richard's Bay Airport, via Johannesburg, where you will be met by the project co-ordinator.
